Drug Rehab Detox, Part 3 of 3

In most drug rehab centers, drug detox is a major feature of their program. In order for the rehabilitation process to be truly effective, it is best that all drugs and toxic substances such as alcohol, heroin and valium in the body are eliminated first. Thus, a drug detox center focuses mainly on drug detoxification. At a drug detox center, one may experience a barrage of unfamiliar symptoms. Being aware of these symptoms beforehand will help you to understand what is going on when you begin to experience them.

The symptoms one experiences when seeking to break an addiction may be termed withdrawal symptoms. Those experienced at a drug detox center include paranoia, anxiety, depression, weight loss and more. The intensity of the symptoms depends on the treatment method offered by the center. Some centers offer treatment that will minimize most symptoms and so, their patients only experience a little fatigue and loss of appetite.

The idea of never being able to take a drug again may cause serious anxiety in some persons. They feel as if they will not be able to contain themselves if they do not get a drug fix. When a person craves a drug intensely, this craving becomes much greater than their desire for food. As a result, loss of appetite and significant weight loss may occur. At a drug detox center, persons may also become depressed due to lack of the drug that once induced happiness and euphoria. Other withdrawal symptoms include excessive fatigue, chills and muscle pain.

Symptoms can last anywhere between two and fourteen days. This varies from person to person due to differences in drug addiction and the reaction of the person’s body to the drug or the lack thereof. Because this is a very essential step to drug rehabilitation, it is advised that you go to a drug detox center right away if you desire to recover from your addiction.
